Ch 08-02 Sunspots and Solar Activities
- Sunspots
- Appearances
- Zeeman effect
Sunspots are regions on the solar photosphere where the temperature is lower
(down to 4000 K)
and the magnetic field is stronger (up to 1000 Gauss).
- Periodicity, polarity
- Prominances, filaments
- Solar flares
- Corona mass ejections (CME)
[play movie] The ejection in the movie takes about hours.
CME material may reach the Earth in a few days if it comes towards us.
